What is wardrobe vinyl wrapping?

Wardrobe vinyl wrapping means applying a durable adhesive-backed film to your existing wardrobe doors, drawer fronts and sometimes carcass faces. The result is a completely new finish — new colour, new texture, new look — without replacing the furniture itself.

The process is the same as kitchen door wrapping: doors are removed, surfaces cleaned and prepared, film applied, trimmed and the doors rehung. The whole job for a standard fitted wardrobe set typically takes a day or less.

Which wardrobes can be wrapped?

Most flat-fronted wardrobe doors can be wrapped. Good candidates include:

  • Flat slab doors in melamine, MDF or painted wood
  • Simple shaker-style doors with shallow routed profiles
  • IKEA PAX and similar flat-panel wardrobe systems
  • Bespoke fitted wardrobes with standard flat or lightly routed doors
  • Sliding wardrobe door panels (aluminium-framed, the panels themselves)

Doors that are more difficult or unsuitable: deeply ornate carved profiles, mirrored fronts, heavily textured surfaces that don't hold adhesive cleanly. We assess every door at the survey and will tell you if anything isn't suitable.

Wardrobe vinyl wrap ideas and finishes

The right finish depends on your bedroom style and lighting. Here's how different finishes tend to work in bedroom environments:

Matt white or grey

Timeless and versatile. Matt finishes work in virtually any bedroom — they're forgiving on fingerprints and marks, and they don't compete visually with other elements in the room. Soft white, linen, warm grey and anthracite are all popular choices for wardrobes.

Woodgrain

Oak, walnut, pine and driftwood effects are popular for bedrooms where a natural, warm tone works well. Light oak is particularly versatile — it works in both Scandi-minimalist and traditional bedroom styles. Walnut reads as more premium and works well in darker, more atmospheric bedrooms.

Gloss white or cream

High-gloss finishes are particularly effective in smaller bedrooms or rooms with limited natural light — the reflective surface bounces light around the room. They show fingerprints more readily, but a quick wipe keeps them looking clean.

Concrete and stone effect

Works well in modern or industrial-style bedrooms. The textured appearance adds visual interest and the finish hides marks very effectively.

Two-tone combinations

Some clients choose to wrap upper wardrobe sections in one finish and lower in another — or to wrap the wardrobe doors in a contrasting finish to a dressing table or chest of drawers. All of this is possible. We can advise at survey on what tends to work visually.

How much does wardrobe vinyl wrapping cost?

Wardrobe wrapping is priced similarly to kitchen door wrapping:

  • Standard wardrobe door: from £45
  • Large floor-to-ceiling wardrobe door: from £60
  • Full set of 4 wardrobe doors: typically £180–£280
  • Full wall of fitted wardrobes (6–8 doors): typically £350–£550

Prices depend on door size, finish chosen and whether carcass faces are included. We provide a fixed price after the free survey — no obligation.

Wardrobe wrapping vs new wardrobes — is it worth it?

New fitted wardrobes are expensive — typically £3,000–£10,000+ for a professional installation. Even flat-pack options add up once you include delivery and fitting time.

If your existing wardrobes are structurally sound — the carcasses are solid, the hinges work properly, the frame is level — but the finish looks dated, wrapping gives you an identical visual result for a fraction of the cost. The difference in the bedroom is indistinguishable from new furniture to anyone who wasn't there to see the wrapping done.

Can you wrap it with the kitchen at the same time?

Yes — and this is something we often do. If you're having a kitchen wrapped, adding the bedroom wardrobes to the same job means one visit, one fixed price, and the whole house is refreshed together. Bathroom cabinets can be included in the same job too.
