Gateshead town centre — NE8
Gateshead town centre (NE8) was significantly redeveloped following the 1980 fire and post-industrial transition — Trinity Square is the primary shopping centre (anchor: Tesco, retail mix), with the surrounding streets offering a mix of national retail and independent commercial occupiers. The High Street and Jackson Street zone retains some period commercial frontages. Retail and commercial graphics, shopfront vinyls, branded window campaigns in the town centre zone.
IKEA Gateshead & the A1(M)/A69 retail zone — NE11
The IKEA Gateshead store and surrounding A1(M)/A69 retail and leisure parks (including Retail World and the Saltmeadows Road zone) form a major out-of-town retail cluster at the A1(M)/A69 interchange. Gateshead NE11 — first stop on the A1(M) into Tyneside
The A1(M) enters Tyneside at junction 65, Gateshead — and the MetroCentre (NE11) car park is immediately off that junction. For every A1(M) north programme from South Yorkshire, Gateshead NE11 is reached before Newcastle city centre, before the Tyne Bridge, before any NE1 or NE2 postcode.
